Re: Advice on managing HOA’s turf maintenance company

1. Wondering what is the best way to approach the company for records and their 2022 schedule of applications. Would it be possible to recommend different ferts based on our soil analysis? 2. Irrigation. Water is a huge expense to our budget. We have bermuda throughout. I know watering can be cut b...

Re: Uses for electrostatic sprayer

Can it be used as a fogger for mosquito control? That's a good idea but if I understand it correctly, the electrostatic sprayer specializes in having whatever solvent is used to stick to surfaces, rather than stay airborne. I could be wrong but I suspect mosquito foggers work by having particles fl...

Uses for electrostatic sprayer

Back on Cyber Monday I ordered some items through Direct Tools and they shipped me a Ryobi electrostatic sprayer for free. My guess is Ryobi ramped up production of these things once the pandemic hit, and a strong demand for them never quite materialized. Here it is: https://www.homedepot.com/p/RYOB...

Re: Fighting anthracnose in maple trees

If the leaves are only showing this in the fall, I would not bother as it is not terribly detrimental to the tree. If it is happening earlier in the growing season, then it could be detrimental. Are you getting decent new growth out of the trees during the growing season? Yes, I think that growth i...

Re: Fighting anthracnose in maple trees

No, I haven't sprayed anything on. I planted the tree about a year and a half ago. I don't think the leaves looked fairly normal through the summer, and the browning didn't start appearing until the Fall. Just curious - what is the purpose of throwing the leaves away? Would they infect the lawn bene...

Re: Fighting anthracnose in maple trees

Here is a picture of what is happening. I'm not sure whether it's a geographical problem in general or one due to my environmental conditions.

Re: Japanese Red Leaf Maple tree

I planted this young Japanese Red Leaf Maple tree this early Fall/Autumn. Just be sure to remove the stake relatively soon. I'm assuming that you did it because the root structure is very weak right now, but usually stakes should not be used to prop up young trees. When this happens, it can lead to...

Re: What to fill Ditch with?

I dug it, started to do French drain, decided not to, now just want to know what I should fill it with. The question is much easier than you prolly think I think if you get as close to loam as possible, along with a small amount of organic matter, you should be good. However, if you're buying soil ...

Re: Lowering Rotary Mower Cut

I haven't tried that but what I typically do is adjust each wheel height below the last notch, which allows me to get pretty low. The problem of course is that unless you're on a lawn with the flatness of an ice skating rink, the scalping starts to become too much with a rotary mower.

Fighting anthracnose in maple trees

I have a few maple trees in my yard that have been fighting a battle against what seems like anthracnose. Now that it's Fall and the leaves are changing colors here, it's quite evident as the leaves are turning a spotty, ugly dark brown. These trees are only about two years old, get plenty of sunlig...

Anyone work with epoxy? I never have, but I've gotten curious about it after seeing a lot of Youtube videos on it and am hoping to do some small-scale projects with it (e.g. coasters, maybe a serving tray, etc.). As a noob, anyone have any tips for me?

I’m honestly not sure what to do and it’s overwhelming. I want to put fertilizer down, but I’m not sure if it’s too late in the year. I mean, what should my next step here in Midland, Texas for my front and backyards. Thank you for any help and advice! I'm assuming that your neighborhood is new con...

Re: Green Pop

Could it hurt the grass with an iron application? I put some granular Ironite on my lawn a week ago in just a few sections. Price was drastically reduced at Walmart so I picked up a small bag and put it on my lawn to test it out. I have only ever sprayed chelated iron on my lawn, so I'm not sure wh...

I did a HOC reset on 4 September and put down 1 lb N/M of Sunniland 24-0-11 with 50% slow release nitrogen to help it recover faster.
Could you post pictures of what your lawn looks like now? I'm interested in seeing how it's recovered since you took it down in early September.

Re: Is Bermudagrass overrated?

fwiw..i don't know a cherry that doesn't drop leaves in Atlanta in August...by end of, it's naked. It's always first I couldn't find information about when flowering cherry trees naturally lose their leaves, but I did see several people online talk about how they regularly get hit with disease/pest...

Re: Is Bermudagrass overrated?

Somewhere along the line, most of us were conditioned to believe that grass is "supposed" to be green year 'round, but trees get a free pass. I'm just wondering why, that's all :). Alright, so this is a bit off topic, but it sounds like defoliation for a cherry tree in Ohio in August is not natural...

Re: Is Bermudagrass overrated?

From late spring to early fall I have to mow, trim, and edge my bermuda every 2 days or it will take over and mid summer every 2 days is almost not enough. Not sure how much faster you think it should grow. I actually wish it didn’t grow so fast cause I really hate mowing every 2 days. You're right...

Re: Is Bermudagrass overrated?

Just a thought... I wonder if all we need is a shift in our thinking about dormant grass in general? I grew up in the North, where lawns would only go dormant under really cold temperatures, and usually then it was all covered with snow anyway. Once I moved to the South I thought it strange that th...
