Re: Empire Zoysia - To scalp or not to scalp

Well, the clippings was enough to fill an entire garbage can. No. That was with my Ego lawn mower wich has 6 settings. Six being 4" and I did that with a 3 which is about 2.5" the lowest setting, one, is 1.5". I had to stop at 3 because the lawn mower was having such a hard time that it would just ...

Re: Want to Id this without plucking it first

Also, the stem should be triangular. Rolling it between your fingers, you should be able to feel each side of triangle unlike grass which is either round or flat. Ok, not a sedge then. Definitely no triangular stem. Kind of 2-sided if not round. Now I'm curious why people think it's not Poa Yep, de...

Re: California Trimmer

I have used a 20” Cali Trimmer for the last four years, and it was my entry into the reel world. It was great for the first few seasons but, even after keeping well maintained, the way that it is built doesn’t allow for proper adjustments for leveling the bed knife and reel. In other words, though ...

Agree on the "not poa", but don't think it's goosegrass either. You might have to let it go to seed to get an accurate ID.

Celebration is by far the best bermuda cultivar overall, but if water is no issue, then Tifgrand.

Re: Mixing Guide for Killing Bermuda in Zoysia

Does everyone follow the mowing suggestion of no mowing before or after 7 days of applying? That's a long time in reel mowing world. I tried this mixture once, but decided against it because TLDR. The zoysia didn't show any injury, but wasn't growing either, so you shouldn't have any issues with 7 ...

@JustinChoy looks like Kikuyu grass. No idea how to get rid of it in St Augustine/Buffalo. @Greendoc might have the knowledge you seek.

Looks like centipede to me. Also looks like there is a ton of fungal activity going on there. Have you had a frost yet?

Hey Mopar, sorry to hear about the move to Midland...lol. I'm a native of Midland/Odessa and graduated from Permian HS many years back. Anyway, how does the turf look now? I would have to believe its dormant now but is it thick and dense like your previous yard of 419? Personaly I would look how th...

Re: 2021 College Football Season

The Rosebowl turned out to be the best one yet. Michigan was a disappointment that game was expected to be better. But Alabama vs Georgia was the expected final game. Was expecting cincy to air the ball out more. I suppose watching Alabama blow out Georgia again is the best we can hope for. I would...

Re: Tech Turf/dwarf bermudas

Tech Turf was a buffalo grass and they sold Shadow Turf (which was a zoysia matrella variety) to match for shady areas. I think they've been out of business for 7-8 years now.

Re: Reel mowing when dormant or when having fungus

rvczoysia as mentioned, zoysia is a difficult grass to get a clean cut on. Your mower has to be sharp. If it won't cut paper, then you won't be getting a good cut on zoysia. Dormant zoysia isn't much different either. My zoysia will kill the gx120 on my CalTrimmer in the Spring if I'm trying to cut...

Re: Bermuda Help

If you have any shade, Celebration. If your purely looking for dark and fine texture, Latitude 36 or Tifgrand. I would recommend Celebration to 99% of people who are wanting bermuda. If you are going to cut it with a rotary, definitely don't pick a tif(anything) as those hybrids tend to scalp more t...

Re: Chapin 97902 24V Push Sprayer

My pump is toast. I’ve tried every trick under the sun to revive it and it’s still not working properly. I it barely has enough power to spit out of 1 nozzle. Should I bother to call Chapin for a replacement or just replace on my own? You can get a replacement for$20. I went looking for more power ...

Re: 2021 College Football Season

I haven't seen or heard numbers yet for the Lincoln Riley to USC contract, but they have to be massive. No way you're convincing me USC is a better job than OU at this moment or going forward unless you're looking for an easier path to the playoff. EDIT: sorry @Ware we were posting at same time. OU...

Lincoln Riley to USC is an interesting move.
Lincoln trying hard not to become the next Arky. Sorry, Ware. OU and Texas fans are for certain not ready for the 5-7 seasons that await them. They won't benefit at all from the extra $20mil each year.

Re: Total Precipitation This Season

I record weekly totals and have a running spreadsheet that I started in 2012. This has been a very wet year for south Alabama, especially because we did not have any hurricanes or tropical systems. Year To Date 2012 - 69.1" 2013 - 82.3" 2014 - 77.22" (23.18" over night in May) 2015 - 73.29" 2016 - ...
