Re: Drainage for artificial turf

I think you need to add an aggregate base under your artificial turf. You should be able to research putting green drainage for ideals to help. The aggregate will act as one big drain under the turf, you may need to add drainage piping as well. But that's where I would start. I didn't recognize how ...

Re: Jagermeister Georgia spring renovation plans

I am finding that there is no such thing as cheap seed without the risk of weed seeds or annual ryegrass seeds anyway. I am now thinking about doing option 1 and mainly keep what I have, plant annual rye on the bare spots for erosion control, and then use glyphosate to chemical mow and prevent seed...

Re: Jagermeister Georgia spring renovation plans

I’m a little farther north, Nashville, I agree with everything that’s been said around soil temps. I’ve had to mow my TTTF as late as the 15th of December some years so our weather can be very different year to year. But I believe your window will be around Mid March to Mid April. Someone else may h...

Re: Connecting air compressor to irrigation

Thought I would share my experience and cover an additional item. I’m in the south Nashville and I blow out my system myself. My lines are not super deep about 8 to 12 inches. The frost line for TN is 12 to 18 inches. So my lines would potentially freeze. I’ve read about scfm. But an additional item...

Re: Critique this rainbird design

You may want a 360 in the middle on the right side. I think you may have a dry spot around the head on the far lower right unless you hit a lot of the sidewalk not sure how big your beauty strip is but if it’s narrow you may want to go straight down the middle with center strip sprays if it’s larger...

Re: When do you stop watering?

In the transition zone for me it changes yearly since the temps can be a bit erratic. But usually after my last fertilizer app and when the growth really slows down. This time last year in Nashville temps were in the 80’s and I was cutting every 3 days this year highs are in the 60’s and I went 8 da...

Re: UTK03's Middle TN Lawn Journal

Pretty much end of the season. Soil temps last week where high 50’s in the shade and high 60’s in the sun. I cut today and made it through the entire yard and only half the bag was full. Overall I’m pretty happy with how the year went a few thin spots and my one reno area hasn’t fully filled in yet....

Re: UTK03's Middle TN Lawn Journal

Last Month I lowered my HOC down to around 2.5 I’ve brought it up some. Pulled my flowers since the first frost is coming and planted 100 tulip bulbs. I still have a few bare spots I’m working on the side yard from my draining project. Soil temps are 69 degrees and 60 in the shady parts of the lawn....

Re: Leak in system, HELP?

When I had a leaking valve the value didn't close all the way. When I turned off all the zones I could hear water running in the valve box. But it didn't drip in the valve box. Depending on the valve you have you should be able to buy the same type and only replace the valve internals and not the bo...

Re: water uniformity

I think you need a 360 in the middle to even it out. The end of a stream has the most water and the head normally puts out the least amount of water next to it. If my geometry is correct the diagonal would be 42 feet. So as you described one head wouldn’t hit all three of the other heads just 2. Bef...

Re: Lesco 12-0-0 amount of carrier?

I use this product on my TTTF I go on the heavy side 8 oz per 1k and use a 4 gallon battery powered Chapin sprayer. 1 gallon covers 1k for me so it’s normally 1 refill for my 8k lawn. Haven’t had a problem with the yard turning black it gives it an almost immediate green up. And after watering it in...

Re: UTK03's Middle TN Lawn Journal

Been a while since I posted. I survived another summer I’ve started to lower my height of cut and applied humic and iron yesterday. The iron is 12-0-0 and I used 8 oz per 1k the humic is 6-0-0 and I applied 4 oz per 1k. The humic is almost black and I combination with the iron it gives it an immedia...

Re: UTK03's Middle TN Lawn Journal

Not bad for August I water every other day need to get a fungicide app down. I have a little weed pressure but in this heat wave the weeds will have to wait. I didn’t get done mowing until after dark and I still swept the sidewalks. Today I’ll mow the back and blow everything in the front. I’m sure ...

Re: UTK03's Middle TN Lawn Journal

Put down .7 #’s per K of T storm granular fungicide. Put down 1.5 #’s per K of Lesco Carbon Pro G. Right before the rain and did a catch cup test. Watering 2.5 times a week with .4 inches per watering with around 80+ % uniformity. Pretty happy for July. The rain had me worried about Fungus pressure ...

Re: Catch Cup Results

I went out before my schedule kicked off at midnight. Uniformity is up a bit per Orbit. Each cup was at .4 one was at .3 I need to adjust the arc of one rotor which use to hit the house and fence so I cut it a little short on one side and I haven't shorten the arc on the 270 degree rotor yet one cup...

Re: Catch Cup Results

Thanks g-man , I will set them out again before the next run. Which should validate if I'm truly putting out half an inch per schedule and also validate that I tweaked the front rotor in the middle to average out the high and low cups from the test. I guess I cracked open the beer to celebrate my un...

Catch Cup Results

Ordered some catch cups from Orbit a while ago and I finally got out this morning and did a test. Weather was perfect with nearly zero wind. There was a ton of consistency around 25 ml’s or .1 inch per runtime according to the cups so per orbit I have 81% uniformity. The target per the site was 70% ...

Lastly, I have to increase the watering duration in the side strips they are starting to get a little heat stressed.
