Re: HLG's Coronavirus Survival Log

So, good news is I have great service from the Toro service people. The white smoke can be a bad sign of a blown head gasket - I sure hope not. I'll be without a mower until they can swing by to pick it up, so I'm going to be cutting with a rider. Yikes. Oh well, this is the way it goes, eh? I've be...

Re: HLG's Coronavirus Survival Log

@HoosierLawnGnome How are the greens doing? SNOWBOB11 Well, they grew in fantastically and have established well. I skipped tupersan on the greens this spring. Im mowing them about 2x a week. Rather, my son is. The low hoc and occasional hand pull are easier than spraying. I started graduate school...

Re: HAM Radio

@MarkV I get 60 miles on my Comet GP3 at 20 ft AGL with 50 ft LMR400 on a Kenwood TMV71A on 2m 70cm

On HF I hear stations all over the world and have transmitted to Europe, southern Brazil, and northeastern Africa on an OCF dipole.

All in my attic.

Re: Clay Soil = lawn redo?

Without a test confirming you have clay soil, do not assume it is clay. I don't see that posted anywhere, and your landscaper doesn't necessarily know. I have a test indicating my soil is a slightly silty clay. My lawn is ok, just check out my threads. Don't get thrown off track by poor assumptions....

Re: HAM Radio

Scanners are pretty cool for air traffic and emergency stuff.

I got into it in part initially because I needed a way to communicate while hunting out of cell phone range. Then it took off.

It all started with a Baofeng UV-5R for those purposes......

Re: HLG's Golf Course

I've been crazy busy, so I haven't posted much out here, but the turf is going strong. The greens filled in nicely. I'm cutting them pretty high, and actually my 15 year old boy was chomping at the bit to cut them, so I showed him how. He cuts them 2-3X a week which is going to be ok for where I wan...

Re: HLG's Coronavirus Survival Log

Put out most of the winterizer urea tonight. Battery dead so I did it all with a 5 lb hand spreader. Good exercise.

Also cut today for one last trim. It's possible ill run over it again if it warms up just to smooth it out. Top growth was 1/4 over a weel or two.

Re: Like new Toro GM1000 for sale, what’s a good price?

Yeah, prices vary - all over. That's a nicer, newer, used model, and the price reflects that. There's something to be said for being able to see it in person before you buy it. Good luck finding one you can see before you buy around Indy - I bought mine sight unseen, only having pictures, not from a...

Wow, finally getting back on this forum a bit.

Things are looking very good!

I thought I'd have bare spots come winter, but I let mine grow out a bit, and it has filled in nicely! Those bare spots will be fine in the spring if they aren't already!

Re: HAM Radio

No HAM, but I have used HF while over the Pacific. Pretty wild to be off the coast of the Philippines and talking to a controller in Oakland, CA. almost half a world away. Pilots need a radio license for that part of the job but no Morse training anymore. It was nice not having to learn Morse Code!...

Called my local John Deere dealer and they said it’s wear and tear item and most likely not covered. They said likely a stick got in between the belt and pulley and snapped the belt. Crazy
That sounds like the south bound emissions of a north bound horse to me.
