Re: Backyard Lawn Expansion Plans

I've made some progress, but need a little advice at this point. All the landscape gravel and plants (except one I need to transplant) have been removed from the expansion area. https://i.postimg.cc/fTqZf6f1/image001.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/NfjBTgm1/image002.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/vBwG6ftB/image0...

Re: Perennial Rye Grass

Yeah @stogie1020 it really depends on how you want the transition to look. I like to scalp and dethatch my bermuda in the spring, so I kill mine out earlier. In other words, I'm not too concerned about a seamless transition. I like the idea of being able to dethach before the Bermuda starts really ...

Re: Perennial Rye Grass

Ok, found this, although it doesn't offer a simple solution or calendar: https://www.usga.org/content/usga/home-page/course-care/2011/04/kill-the-rye-or-the-bermuda-will-die-2147496951.html What I am gathering is that green up occurs long before active growth, so no need to kill the rye just yet, us...

Re: Perennial Rye Grass

Is there a particular soil temp we are looking for to kill off the rye? I am seeing some green and new growth appearing in the small area of common I did not overseed.

Re: TLF Cigar & Pipe Thread

I smoked a 5 Vegas Gold the other day. It was so mild I had to check to make sure it was lit a few times, as I really couldn't taste anything...

I have a buddy who loves mild smokes, will probably give the remaining 4 from the 5 pack I picked up.

Re: Lurker turned member first post

Stogie, we are in north central Phx.... But there are plenty of other areas around the metro Phoenix sprawl with larger sized yards. I have my hands full with our yard and can't imagine dealing with a bigger one .... especially in the prime summer oven thst we live in. Ahhh. I am NE (FLW and 101) a...

Re: Wet shaving?

I gave up on bowl lathering some time ago. Why was I making this awesome lather in a bowl? I wasn't shaving the bowl! I started face lathering and have not looked back. All that great lather works it's way into my beard as I lather and my skin feels great when I finish shaving. I use TOBS and it fac...

Eagle Rare is my favorite, when I can actually find a bottle for sale. I may have stumbled upon a way to get it whenever I want though... Well if your source falls through, I'm part of a whiskey club. We buy and trade whiskies when they are hard to acquire. I could probably get it for you. You woul...

Re: 2020 | What did you do with your lawn today?

@Teej , Which model Earthwise cuts at .5"? I am looking to replace my scotts because it only drops down to 1", but I have only found the Great States and the American Lawn push mowers to go down to .5" (I think some SunJoe do as well). The 7 blade Earthwise 171516EW will go down to .5". To cut down...

Re: Backyard Lawn Expansion Plans

Made some progress today. The goal for the day was to remove the landscape gravel and start removing the plants that have to go. I started with this: https://i.postimg.cc/bNFtYMZb/IMG-20200120-091718.jpg And ended up with: https://i.postimg.cc/3x53ZC6V/PANO-20200120-150336-vr.jpg In the process I re...

Re: Drip Irrigation Noise

It's likely that the hoses are carrying the noise, but unless you installed noisemakers throughout the lines, there is probably one spot that has the noise originating from it. Are all the drip lines on a single zone (valve) or are they on multiple valves/zones? If they are all on one, I would check...

Re: What Bermuda Seed and Why?

I think it may be just like any traditional seasonal overseed application, some will take and some won't. The common will be less hearty because it will be covered, giving the seed a better chance at getting nutrients from the top two inches of soil (the new soil).

Re: What Bermuda Seed and Why?

Honestly, I didn't hate the common, but have no experience with any higher-end Bermudas. I cannot go a season without grass while I kill off the common, the 2 1/2 year old would revolt. I think I may bury the common under top soil during the regrade of the lawn knowing it will return, and put down n...
