Re: Pennstater’s 2021 Lawn Journal (Starts Page 59)

Newer section of renovation (last year's). I don't hate the fine fescue yet. It is definitely helping in the shadier areas. It's not bad when mixed with other species, and really does help with shade/tree roots (or low input). I don't like when it becomes the predominant species. But that won't hap...

Re: Greg's 2021 TTTF/KBG Journal - Saying Goodbye

So the current plan is to work with what's there for a couple years. I won't have enough time this year to do a reno, and next year I'm scheduled to deploy during reno season, so 2023 will be the year I do a reno. Lots of time in between to get the soil up to snuff. Good thing is the current lawn i...

Re: Green's Lawn Journal

Observations:

Saw a firefly or two the other night.

Red thread is increasing in our area.

I'm getting broadleaf weeds popping up along disturbed edges and in mulch areas; should've done the Gallery app a few weeks ago. Also have a few crabgrass plants popping up in the disturbed edges.

Re: Apply fungicide after mowing

Wow that is a lot to take in. I knew rotation was important, but not after so few applications. I’m glad you told me that. Looking at Domyown.com I found Clearys 3336 DG Lite Granular Fungicide with Thiophanate-methyl 2.08% (which I am not familiar with). I only know of Azoxystrobin and Propiconazo...

Re: Which company grows Midnight KBG?

@green may need @Oregonseed to chime in on that question. Interesting. This jogged my memory that I had asked Oregonseed a similar but slightly different question in the past (whether Midnight is a public variety or not) Here is the response: https://thelawnforum.com/viewtopic.php?p=162901#p162901 ...

Re: JDgreen18 lawn journal 2021

What's the idea behind doing the soil first, and then spraying? I would think some of the grass would be covered by a thin layer of soil and the glyphosate wouldn't hit it.

By the way, do you have a mower attachment for the tractor?

Re: Fescue - Can't keep it Green

The previous issues (drought, cost) notwithstanding... I will comment on the 40 psi. It's a little low, as you know. If you have rotor heads, they're designed for 45 psi optimally, so maybe ok (as long there aren't too many per zone). But multi-stream rotary nozzles are really the best type of sprin...

Re: Need help picking a seed type

I have Boreal Creeping Red Fescue in my yard. It does not green up, constantly has a thatch layer, and it does not stipe at all. It pushed out all my KBG. CRF is what helped me join this forum. I am slowly trying to eliminate it without killing my entire lawn. The newer cultivars of strong creeping...

@Camman595 it was Jacklin which was bought by Simplot but now they are owned by Barenbrug.
I notice Midnight under many seed companies' listings lately. Is it a generic cultivar now (patent worn off)?

Re: Apply fungicide after mowing

I forgot that leaf spot and melting out have similar characteristics but are different. My fertilizing company identified and treated it as melting out. Since Propiconazole was used initially, should I switch to something else, Disease Ex or BioAdvanced Fungus Control? I am looking for something gr...

Re: Thin KBG , blades lay flat. Fixing texture

Also looks scalped, still...I think that's most of the issue with horizontal blades. Keep it around 0.9 inch...don't go any lower at this time. Hopefully you're mowing often enough. That's what my grass looks like when I intentionally scalp it. Yours is trying to adjust to the current HOC, from the ...

Re: Need help picking a seed type

I have the one I showed was local. Also Agway is a feed and seed local to western PA because there are only four stores in our area. I have searched and called all I have found on my web search. I’m just trying to find a seed that will give that lush dark green lawn. I know I’m kinda anal but my da...

Re: Need help picking a seed type

No way to know what varieties are in that seed, as they're not named.

Are you looking for advice on grass types? Because you can't go wrong with TTTF in general. It's a good all around performer as a major component in a mix.

I want to buy bewitched from them but they're considerably less than other places at $65 per 10 lbs which lead me to wonder if its "authentic" bewitched?

Anybody else use them?
A couple of years ago when I bought Bewitched from them, it was sod quality.

One availability note:

Scotts now only sells Azoxy.

But T-Methyl is available under the Jonathan Green brand, readily.
Otherwise, it can be tough to find.

Re: Green's Lawn Journal

Yesterday: Mowed (3.25) side front, upper back, upper side, part of main front, and low input area at 3.75 (side discharging). Due to high 80s low 90s and the highest sun angle of the entire year, I let it go 8 days on the low input area. It did grow, though! Good opportunity to raise the HOC after....
