Re: Correct topsoil?

The compost will decompose over time and the final grade will drop. With 50% compost, you will lose ~50%. If you can custom blend the soil, then 5-10% compost is what I would ask for. If you can't, then you want to try and match soil composition (i.e. sand/silt/clay percentages) to the current soil.

Re: PSI standard for sprayer?

TeeJet nozzle pressure ranges are usually 30-60. If you have a choice, I would set the pressure at 40PSI.

They would probably view it as illegal.

Re: EV 50 amp outlet

I doubt that an inspector will pass a 50 Amp 220 outlet with a lifted ground. Bernstem, I am not familiar with the terminology of "Lifted Ground". Can you explain? Almost all basic home electrical circuits have three wires. Positive, negative, and ground. Older wiring will have only a positive and ...

Re: bernstem 2021 lawn journal

I definitely want to bring it down and it’s going to take an eternity. It’s at 7.6 at the moment. If you want to aggressively try to address pH, then Citric Acid at 1-2 lbs/M every 2-4 weeks (make sure to water in immediately after application as it will burn), Sulfur at 5 lbs/M twice per year, and...

Re: bernstem 2021 lawn journal

Man I’m sorry to hear about that tree coming down. What a pain. Looks like you’re getting closer to back to normal. I’m considering throwing down some elemental sulfur as well but am planning to seed between 8/10-8/14. Think I should just hold off until next summer? I dropped at half rate today wit...

Re: bernstem 2021 lawn journal

I have been working most of the past week to repair damage from the utility repair. The truck damage is improving with pitchfork decompaction (is that a term? If not, I'm copywriting it). I would say it is 80-90% better, but will likely need some sand leveling. I'll keep at it with the pitchfork for...

Re: davegravy's 2021 journal (with Flex21!)

Seems like no lawn can escape it! Wish me luck lol 😂 Good luck! 😉 So I didn't think this was the time of year to attack Triv but if it's alive and growing does it make sense to put down a low rate tenacity app to mark it, spot nuke with gly, then plug/seed? Or should I wait and do this in the sprin...

Re: bernstem 2021 lawn journal

Slingblade_847 I get the same thing on some of my Daylillies, though usually after blooming. I don't do anything to treat it. I'm not sure it is disease in my case. You might look at soil moisture levels. Too wet or too dry can cause problems with them. Some varieties also don't like any shade. You...

Be aware that T-nex and Propi over regulation looks a lot like disease. At that dose and combination with higher temps, you might see some browning.

Re: bernstem 2021 lawn journal

I'll update with pictures from just before power went out last week. As you might guess, I have been a bit busy with non-lawn stuff and sorting out back yard recovery so taking pictures of the lawn has not been a priority. The power company had to completely replace the utility pole at the back of t...

Re: Slingblade 2021 Journal

@Green your spot on (per usual) with the summer patch. I hit every checkbox on that disease. I know our buddy @bernstem routinely fights SP, but according to his journal, has had low pressure this year. Bernstem, my question to you is, what do you do when it does hit you hard? Treat it and plug it?...

Re: bernstem 2021 lawn journal

Mr. Bernstem! Lawn looking great, along with the garden! Love the different daylilies. When do you plan to nuke that gorgeous lawn? I'll probably start glyphosate in 1-2 weeks. The last week has been interesting. We had a big storm last week that took the top off a tree next to the lawn. It ended u...

Could be a spontaneous mutation. They happen sometimes. Doesn't look like a root stock sucker as they tend to be pink single roses.

Re: Effects of high dose of PGR?

Wait, this suggests I have a misunderstanding about how pgr works. I thought if you increase the rate it doesn't last any longer but the total amount of clipping suppression you get increases. In other words you use the same GDD reapplication interval (to avoid rebound) regardless of what concentra...

Re: Effects of high dose of PGR?

It will mostly make it look bad. Higher doses will last a little bit longer, but it is not linear. Doubling the dose does not get you twice the duration of regulation. Wait, this suggests I have a misunderstanding about how pgr works. I thought if you increase the rate it doesn't last any longer bu...
