Re: Recovery time: some leveling at Spring scalp time

The first time I tried to level my lawn I did it way to early. Like the guys at Reelrollers mentioned I had a lot of washout with heavy rains. It caused more work the following year. It is best to wait until the grass is green and full before you sand.

I think there is a guy up in Hendersonville that sharpens them?

Re: Reel mowing and watering?

It will be fine. I started reel mowing my Bermuda this year and most of the year I kept it at 5/8" tall. Never had a single problem with drought.

Re: Some things I learned in my first year

I would also add that you don't need a brand new mower. Even a used mower that at the least needs to be backlapped is money well spent. I picked up my McLane for under 200. Put a new Harbor Freight engine on it and backlapped it. Worked great and this is the best looking lawn I have ever had.

Re: kc8qpu 2021 in South Carolina

Not sure how many more cuts will be left this year. So far it's holding onto a nice green color. The cut around the tree is the lowest setting on the mower. I believe it was at .625" and that is what I was cutting the front lawn at most of the summer. It hot away from me once so I cut it at the next...

Have had night temps in the 40s a couple of weeks ago. Starting to see signs of dormant letting the Bermuda get longer for winter.

I let mine grow longer. Then scalped it down and let it grow.

Does anyone have directions on replacing the smooth rear tires/wheels on a Mclane 20"?
It sucks. I did mine earlier this year. I don't remember any particular steps. I just started taking stuff apart.

Re: kc8qpu 2021 in South Carolina

Really stands out from your neighbors!  Yes. The guy on the right refuses to cut his lawn shorter than 3.5". The guy on the left had a picture from last year in October. His grass was already going dormant and ours was still green. Your backyard and pool turned out incredible.

After watching a few programs about 9/11 and some prayer for the families and ones that lost their life. Gave the yard a Fresh-cut this morning. 7/8".

Makes sure you wait to do the leveling until the grass is actively growing.

Re: kc8qpu 2021 in South Carolina

It has been a while since I posted a picture. My spot that I dug all the concrete out of has finally filled in. I know it is no show stopper lawn on here but I do have a lot of neighbors comment on it, walk on it and touch it.
