Re: Powhatan's 2021 Lawn Journal

Got a couple of fungal disease dark areas appearing. I'll let the grass dry out today, then tomorrow bag mow to capture disease blades and spray neem oil on these dark areas to smother the pathogen.

Re: Powhatan's 2021 Lawn Journal

The NE side lawn receives the majority shade. A mix of KY-31, clover, and last overseed with Scotts Dense Shade Mix (TTTF, CRF, KBG).

Re: Powhatan's 2021 Lawn Journal

Received 2.39" rain since Fri evening. Drought stress areas should green up nicely now. Within next few days plan to broadcast: EcoLogic organic Lawn & Yard Insect Killer granular - house foundation & lawn perimeter treatment (mainly for ticks), Scotts Foundation Soil Improver, and Safer Brand Lawn ...

Re: Watering in high heat for Tall Fescue

For those that irrigate, the popular recommendation is to water deeply and infrequently, targeting 1" per week either on one day or 0.5" on two separate days early in the morning before the day's heat sets in. As for me, I don't irrigate the whole yard, sometimes I'll water a targeted area for a sp...

It has the characteristics of quackgrass, but I'll let someone else chime in to confirm.

Re: Poa triv+annua in tall fescue lawn. Other weeds also but others seem less strong..

A fall preM will reduce next spring's poa annua crop. Poa annua growing now will die shortly with the coming summer heat. Poa trivialis spreads with seeds and rhizomes, but mostly by rhizomes. So a preM will help a little bit. Established poa triv in a cool season lawn will need to be removed either...

Re: General Pest Contral

Chlorantraniliprole (GrubEx) in May for grub prevention and misc pests. Then 4#/M of EcoLogic organic Lawn & Yard Insect Killer granular during summer months to mainly target ticks. Deer and horse flies are the worst during the summer being very persistent, not much to do about those other than bath...

Re: Powhatan's 2021 Lawn Journal

Received 0.03" rain this morning, not very much but it registered as precipitation. A bit more shade in the back which probably helped the grass grow taller there than the front from last cut 6 days ago @ HOC 3.25". High temps 90s past week, 101F on Sunday, according to a local Weather Underground s...

Re: Cool Season Weed ID Thread - What is it and how do I kill it?

https://i.postimg.cc/JnnMzCHj/20210524-183303.jpg So that's not poa trivialis, with those spear looking blades it looks more like quackgrass. The lower left clump appears to have rhizomes. I do see hairs on the stems. Not close enough to see if clasping auricles. Maybe someone else will chime in to...
