Bermuda mowing height?

Post by orangepower1987 » Sun Apr 14, 2019 1:54 pm

Anyone have any insight on the preferred maintenance height? I want to try to keep it as green and healthy as possible, but I also want to see how short i can get it without burning. (Thinking fairway height).

The answer will be dependent on what mower you have. Your profile just says Honda. If you just have a rotary then you can scalp at the lowest notch then start maintaining the grass one notch higher.

All depends on how level your yard is as well. I'm at 2.5 on my yard and I don't believe I could drop any lower if I wanted to.

If your yard is smooth enough and your mower will cut cleanly at a low height, you can cut it pretty much as low as you want to.

In addition to a level yard I would think you need to dethatch on a regular basis. I can't imagine a rotary mower cutting effectively with a lot of thatch.

Thanks everyone! Yea it’s nothing fancy. Just your typical rotary blade. What would be better? This is what Ive grown up using.

From my limited experience the practical real world cutting it is one notch above the lowest your mower can go.

So you can scalp at the lowest setting and then have it grow to you mowers regular cutting height.
