Help with my st augustine lawn

Post by jsgeorge » Tue Sep 10, 2019 6:38 pm

Hello all - I've some questions regarding my st augustine lawn. Thank you for your attention!

1. Pic 1 - Random shoots of grass that grow very tall, very fast. How do I get rid off this? It keeps growing back every time

2. Pic 2 - What are these purple color grass - is it weed? How should I get rid of it?

3. Pic 3 - Again, is this grass or weed? How should I get rid of it?

4. Pic 4 - Some portion of the lawn growing faster compared to the rest and forming "lumps". Any recommendations to fix this?

1. Sedge. Use something like sedgehammer.
2. The left side is sedge. Refer to number 1. The rest can be had with a good pre emergent.
3. Giant sedge. They look like this growing thru my pepper plants.
4. The lumps are called weeds. They look like grassy weeds. Mowing regularly will keep the lumps down.
Get on a good pre emergent. Your grass looks healthy overall which is easier said than done with St Augustine. Get a soil test done to see what you're missing. Mow regularly.

Unless of course that's some giant Bermuda to boot.

Thanks @Kennyatx for the response! . Few follow-up questions:
1. Can I apply sedgehammer before mowing the lawn, since it's easier to spot the weed and target the application. I'd also be able to apply it on the larger surface area of the weed leaves
2. Any issues with combining the applications of sedgehammer, pre-emergent and weed & feed or would it be better to do these in phases
