Please tell me what type of lawn this is

Post by ladycage »

Hello,

Can anyone tell me what type of lawn and weeds I have in these pics. I am new here and trying to learn how to improve this lawn and get rid of the weeds. Its in Lithonia, GA and the temps are in the 90s now.

Looks like you've got Bermuda grass to me. I see some crabrass, sedges, and some other weeds in there. If you haven't yet, check out the Bermuda Bible.

The Bermuda triangle can easily help you with the weeds. Welcome to TLF!

Thank you, I will get some Celsuis and see if that helps. I also purchased some Quincorec (not sure of spelling) for the crabgrass. I will post updates if anything works.

thanks so much for your help. Any other advice or suggestions are welcomed. I want to reseed with Tall fesuce in the fall but not sure if that will work.

The lighter green weed around the hose in the 2nd pic is Virginia Buttonweed. Need to get on top of it soon or it will take over. Celsius is part of the Bermuda Triangle and will help control it but it will come back at some point. Treat it whenever it pops up again.

There's no pre-emergent for buttonweed only post.

Thank you, Ive never heard of buttonweed. I used the spectricide hose end weed killer but it hasn't worked, I also used 2-4D. I hope the Celsius works because I am wasting so much money and my lawn still looks horrible. So you know of anything I can use to make the grass look greener and healthier so that it will over grow the weeds if possible?

I wouldn't worry too much about the crabgrass this season, it's an annual and will die when it gets cold, then you can control it next year with a preemergent. Celsius and certainty would be a good tank mix to spray now and would get rid of the sedge, kyllinga, and dent the buttonweed.

I don't have Bermuda or Fescue but I'm sure some folks that have those will chime it.
